GOOSEY RECOMMENDS

Goosey is back with July's round up of recommendations

FILM
Sorry to Bother You - Boots Riley 2018 - Satire
Set in an alternate reality of present day California, Cassius Green works as a telemarketer for a large corporation. Stuck in this low paying job, one day he stumbles upon a skill that catapults him to the forefront of his team, earning him acclaim and a promotion. As he begins to progress through his career his friends and colleagues organise a protest against corporate oppression. When the nefarious CEO takes Cassius under his wing, he finds himself plunged into a world of greed while still trying to maintain his connection to his friends and colleagues.

Do The Right Thing - Spike Lee 1989 - Drama
In the Bed-Stuy neighbourhood of Brooklyn on the hottest day of the year Mookie, the local pizza delivery man, goes about his work day. Each day is the same, Bed-Stuy brims with frustration and bigotry boiling under the surface of the fabric of a working class, culturally diverse community ready to explode. One day, a series of events leads this tension to erupt with the ensuing mayhem leaving an already broken neighbourhood to contend with the moral, economic and cultural fallout. A film from a unique voice in cinema that resonates as much now as it did when it was first released.
