August is THE DRIVER'S SEAT by the wonderful Muriel Spark. Described by New Yorker as 'Her spiny and treacherous masterpiece'. This is really a tour-de-force of a novel. Known as the author of 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' and 'The Ballad of Peckham Rye' to be considered her masterpiece gives an idea of how wonderful this book is.
