We're thrilled to be hosting this online workshop with our resident textile designer, Isabel Fletcher. The workshop is a two hour course that gives an introduction to appliqué, button and quilting techniques. During the workshop, Isabel will explore how textile waste can be used as a starting point for textile design. She will also demonstrate how considered placement, shape, colour, and stitch can be combined to create beautifully intricate textiles.
What you will need for the session:
Fabrics. This can be any scraps or pieces leftover from other projects, worn out clothing, or bigger sections of fabric you can cut up.
A variety of regular and thicker sewing thread (contrasting or matching)
Pins and needles suitable for your thread
Fabric scissors
Iron and ironing surface
A circular template (a tin of tomatoes works well!)
Although I will be demonstrating hand sewing techniques, you are welcome to use a sewing machine if you prefer.
Notes on fabrics:
It is a good idea to have a range of weights for the techniques we will be working on. Weights can range from thicker upholstery fabrics to fine cotton shirting. Old clothing, bed sheets and pillow cases also work well if you don’t have many fabrics. Think about how your fabrics work together as we will be using them to arrange collage compositions.
You are also welcome to purchase a welcome pack from us for £5 if you do not have any suitable fabrics at home. Please let us know in your sign up email if you would like one.
The workshop is suitable for both complete beginners and those with some sewing experience.
